During my childhood when I used to visit a village, I would find boys playing merrily since morning for the whole day. Yet even in this condition when their mothers came and called them they would say, “There my mother is calling” and would stop playing and start running. The boys no longer liked to play on hearing their mother’s voice. The boy no longer likes it if he is kept confined and asked to play. He drops everything and repeatedly says, “I want to go to my mother”. We could not appreciate the essence of this when we saw this in our childhood. Now when we forget the mother of the universe on being intoxicated by the games of the samsar, sometimes her call does reach our ears. She does call us despite our not remembering her. When her call reaches us, we just cannot avoid coming to her irrespective of our attachment to samsar. She calls not just the virtuous, she calls the sinners too. The beginning of the worship starts with this call. How will those who are always attached to the samsar and to material things—worship her? How can we worship her when we are attached to the samsar throughout the day, throughout the week? When we hear our mother’s call, “It is now evening, leave your play and return”; we search as to where from does the call come? When we hear this sound, we may or may not be able to chant hymns in her praise, but it is enough if we can prostrate to her by calling her ‘Mother’ just once. Else, without hearing her call, real worship cannot be performed by any amount of formal rituals. She calls us all the time, but being busy in various works, we fail to hear her. The mind has to be put at rest leaving all other plays during worship. That call can be heard, when the mind is at rest. Worship is possible with such a state of mind. We have come to worship the one who is our shelter in this world and in the other world. Let not our worship be futile. We should take care, so that our worship is real. Worship is not done if the Supreme One does not get it done. May we engage ourselves in worshipping the Supreme One.
